Impressive, but in the context of WhatsApp’s 350 million active monthly users, as of today’s news, it just shows where BlackBerry could have been had it executed its strategy correctly. They had this market locked down 5 years ago and could have eliminated the competition over time with ease. But like with Apple’s iPhone, I don’t think they took it as serious as they should have. Now, BBM is just one out of many IM clients/platforms trying to make a dent in today’s overcrowded market. Regardless of BlackBerry’s future, I hope a part of it, perhaps BBM, survives in some form.
