Legal Issues With Qualcomm May Prevent Factory Images For New Nexus 7 From Ever Being Published

With the new Nexus 7, JBQ has not outright said that legal problems with Qualcomm are preventing the factory images (and possibly the driver binaries) from being published, but a quick look at the relevant evidence makes it pretty duh-obvious that’s what’s going on.

After posting this article, Android Police updated it with JBQ's post regarding him leaving AOSP.

There’s no point being the maintainer of an Operating System that can’t boot to the home screen on its flagship device for lack of GPU support, especially when I’m getting the blame for something that I don’t have authority to fix myself and that I had anticipated and escalated more than 6 months ahead.

It sucks big time and Google needs to do something about, else Android as an open source mobile operating system, as it stands today, doesn’t have much of a prosperous future if this trend continues.

Update: It seems that the issue has been resolved rather swiftly. Hopefully this trend continues and that JBQ stays on the AOSP team.
